Amritsar and Jallandhar are the two famous cities of the Punjab known for the lacquerware or the abri craft (as known locally). Lacquered furniture like legs for beds and divans in nakashi style are made here with bold and pronounced designs.
On a yellow coated the surface to be lacquered the red lac stick is touched intermittently which leaves an irregular coloured pattern as it revolves. A black border is then drawn around the article. The gaps are then filled with white to produce a cloud effect.
