Bihar and Jharkhand are two of the few places where the ancient art of wood carving and inlay work is still practiced with wall plaques, table tops, pens and paper cutters being from wood and inlaid with diverse materials ranging from metal, ivory, stag horn to chips of different wood.
Diaper work of Bihar utilises waste pieces of wood to make boxes and trays. A common motif is the pipal tree, symbolic of enlightenment of Buddha.
