Paintings of Assam

Naam- Ghara and palaces in Assam portray great stories and events from history and mythology through these paintings. According to the Assamese literature patuas and the chitrakars were expert painters who used locally available materials like hengool and haital for their art. A treatise on elephantas, painted Gita Govinda and Chitra Bhagavata are few of the fine art work preserved through the manuscripts. The motifs from Chitra Bhagavata have made their place as a style for Assamese paintings. History has a record of paintings done on the famous Assam silk.
