Malhari Dance of Gujarat

Malhari is a folk dance of people residing near sea and catch sea food to earn their livelihood. The community dancers perform this dance when they wish something from god or when they take some pledge in the name of their lord. Malhari is the deity whom they worship. The importance of Malhari deity in their lives is of a godfather who looks after them at each front. People belonging to this community have made many temples at different villages and there they conduct the ceremonies in their style. While performing the dance they reach the deity’s place where and while moving back they show the acts of their sea life through a dance in which they try to reflect the use of boat, hard work, dedication and the concentration.
