Lacquered Bamboo of Orissa
Boxes of different sizes were made by the traditional artisans of this craft but many more items like the coasters, wall hangings, folk figures and animals are also made by the newer breed of artisans. This craft is dominated by the women, who use simple tools like scissor, needle and wooden rods for making the products. The craft of lacquer ware on wood is practiced in almost whole of India but the items of Navrangapur of Korapet are distinct as they use lacquer on bamboo products also. The lac is melted and mixed with various pigments to give specific shade. It is then applied as threads on the base of the items to give folk designs in floral geometric shapes with attractive borders.
