Kakra Dance of Gujarat

Kakra is done as an of fering to gods and goddesses to protect young children from deadly diseases like chicken and small pox, measles and such other life threatening diseases. To save them from such illnesses the prayer is of fered to Kaka or mother Shittal. People go in groups with their friends and children to visit the temple where they of fer religious songs.

Here sometimes one or two people are seen carrying burned wooden stick and a cloth in their handswhich they move in the air and also seen shaking while they hold it and in response the children give them the company by saying the name of the holy god and the goddesses. The burning wood and the fabric are called as Kakra. These tribals believe that sometimes the god swallows the kakra and that is taken as the sign of his presence over there.
