Jhalia Dance of Rajasthan

Sahariya tribal community of kota is tradionally involved in the dance form called jhalia. Jhalia is performed during the harvest season. During this season the sahariya community gets in the mood of fun and frolic. The main frolic is expressed through dance. These people don’t plan it in advance it is all at the spur of the moment. It is seen that many a times one person might start singing in the field while and then the swing starts as others follow him. Ladies are not left behind they also join the group.

The songs sung during this are called jhalia and is also known as lavni.
