Dhurries/Namdas of Gujarat
Semi desert region of Kutch is rich in local craft. The local craftsmen of Gujarat make rugs, locally called namdas, in various designs, shapes and colours. The raw material required is wool which is locally available. It is cleaned manually and later spun and dyed in many shades. Orange, maroon, blue, yellow, red and black are the main colors used. Craftsmen design attractive torans (door hanging), wall hangings and floor coverings having multi usage. To make such articles the wool is turned into ropes by rolling it on the clean and hard surface of an inverted pot.
