Bhagtan Dance of Rajasthan

The women belonging to bhagtan community are known as bhagtaniya.They are mainly found in Marwarh region of Jodhpur. The dances performed by them are known as bhagtan dances.

It is believed that the daughters of Ramawat sadhus became corrupted and because of this they reason they were not accepted as brides in their community. This was the time when this caste of bhagtans came up. The males of this caste are known as bhagats.

The females born in this community take up prostitution as their pr of ession but the females entering as brides to this community remain at home. The bhagtiyas earn their livelihood by performing their dance during festivals and marriages.
